One great thing about writing a series called Keely South’s Boozy Mysteries?
Drinking cocktails counts as research.
See the above Blue Lagoon for evidence of how dedicated I am to my writing.
As of yesterday, I’m about 6000 words in to Tall Drink of Slaughter and I have about two thirds of the book outlined. (I also spent all day researching forensics questions about disposing of bodies, so I expect to be arrested any time now.)
It probably seems weird that I’ve started writing without finishing the outline, but I always write things out of order and in chunks and then delete parts and start over – then I go through and sew all the bits together until I’ve got the first few chapters sorted out and I actually know what the book is meant to be. It’s not a very exact process, as you might have gathered, but it gets me there.
I don’t always outline books, but this time I felt like I needed to. I have so many scenes swimming around in my head and I was having trouble getting them all in order in my brain. Now I feel like I’ve just about got it down.
In other news, did you watch the eclipse last night? Alexi and I walked to the park and were there for about three seconds when he decided that it was too cold.
Because he was wearing a T-shirt, shorts and thongs.
Who could have foreseen that? 😂
1st definitely need to know what that lovely adult bevy is! 2nd Balloons research too? 3rd I am catching up on your posts which I love!
It’s vodka, blue curaçao and lemonade – what we call lemonade in Australia, at least. Clear fizzy lemon drink. 😂 You could barely taste the alcohol so I finished mine in about three seconds. Would recommend. Heheh. The balloons were for Alexi’s four-months-late birthday party… We always get things done in a timely manner around here. I’m so happy you’re enjoying the posts! I’m getting back to them now. (Today’s is maybe my favourite ever.)
