Throwback to when my hair was a much brighter shade of purple. It’s fading now, but the waves are still just as wild.
I’m thinking I’ll go blue next… If this purple ever washes out entirely. It’s lasted four months now, so maybe it’ll be gone by Christmas.
(I’m writing this after midnight, by the way, BUT as long as I do it before bed I’m counting it as maintaining my streak. OK? OK.)
As you may know (because I feel like I’ve spoken about nothing else for the past eighteen months), I’m rereleasing the Charlie Davies series. I’m right on the cusp. Ninety-nine percent of the work is done. The books have been rewritten or at least retouched – in the majority of the books, the changes were mostly references swapped for funnier things.
I’ll do a longer post about this when the new versions are actually out, but that’s not super relevant to what I’m talking about in this post.
Today I want to discuss the least surprising thing that’s happened all year.
I looked at the shiny new cover for Losing Your Head and thought… I can do better.
So I’ve spent tonight redesigning it.
If you don’t know, I really, really like designing covers. And redesigning them. Which is lucky, because I seem to spend as much time doing that as I do writing.
(No joke, I’ve probably done a hundred iterations of this cover in the past two years. I’ve been tweaking it A LOT.)
And of course I decided to redesign covers for the entire series after I’d already added the current covers to my website. Definitely not going to take me a million years to get that fixed up.
But anyway…
It’s genuinely hilarious how much better the covers are now. How does this happen every time?? I think I’ve achieved peak cover and then I have a new idea and the old ones look hideous.
Wild.
Do you have anything you’re weirdly obsessive about? Make me feel better. 😂
Good evening Ms Kauter,
Please consider resuming consumption of caffeinated coffee. I fear lack of caffeine will affect your productivity of book 13 in the Charlie Davies mysteries. There’s just so many times I can re-read books 1-12 without craving the new one.
Not randomly, there’s a brilliant weather blogger here ‘Wally’s Weather’ in Townsville Australia who asks readers who support his page to shout (that is, call a good local cafe and pre-pay) him a coffee once in a while. I’d be happy to do the same for you if it might help production …..
Thank you for your work, I have a feeling it entertains you as much as it amuses me. Just you work a lot more for it…..
Ms Mak
Thank you very much for the offer of shouting me a coffee! No need to worry, there’s still plenty of caffeine to keep me going in the tea I drink. 😁 I’m so glad Charlie’s been keeping you entertained. You’re right about the books amusing me – sometimes I snort so much I sound like the pigs while I’m writing.
