I spoke about this a little bit in my newsletter, but in case you missed it…
I don’t know!
Here’s the thing: I’ve run out of ideas. I’m not going to force out a book for the sake of it (honestly I don’t even know if I could), because that book would be terrible and none of us want that.
I started working on this series 20 years ago, and I need a break.
And to be a little mercenary for a second — our girl Charlie isn’t selling like she used to. There has been a pretty steep decline in readership over the past couple of books, and since this is my job, I can’t really afford to keep going in this direction right now.
I need to try something new, for my creativity, for my mental health and for my finances.
When will I come back to her? When I have time, inspiration and savings.
When will that be? It’s a mystery.
I hope you’ll try some of the new books I’m working on, though I know vampires aren’t for everybody. Maybe the Keely South Mysteries are more your thing? (They’re like a raunchier, more serial-killer-y version of Charlie.)
